Here’s 3 Approaches to Generosity that Will Make You Love Living in Quinte

Is generosity a small-town trait that defines residents of the Bay of Quinte area? Pausing for just a moment, you will probably agree that there’s evidence for a resounding “yes”. Generosity is observable in the altruistic actions and motivations behind some of our region’s most remarkable organizations. What follows are three distinctive approaches to generosity which are all community-centric.

Approach #1: The Long Game of Resilience and Compassion

The many-hands-make-light-work philosophy of the Canadian Federation of University Women (Belleville) reminds us that a calm and calculated approach can endure for decades. As you’ll see in this short film feature, the local chapter of CFUW engages in learning, advocacy and support by drawing on its membership of nearly one hundred local women. The organization then radiates value through financial support which empowers a range of local initiatives.

Approach #2: The Rallying Point to Address Pressing Need

In contrast, Gift from the Heart, an organization that is saving lives through its facilitation of no-cost dentistry, has spun outwards from the passion of its founder, Bev Woods. Bev’s sincere belief in the social justice of free oral care has propelled Gift from the Heart to a new level of success this year as it has opened a bricks-and-mortar location to complement its mobile clinic operations.

Approach #3: The Angel Investors in Community and Hope

They’ll be bashful about their inclusion in this feature, but Jeff and Nate Mckerracher believe deeply in the community that sustains their business. For this reason, they make a monthly investment in supporting vital organizations in the Bay of Quinte area through their A1 in the Community program. The unique format invites engagement as organizations get to share their story in the run-up to the award. And successful organizations receive not only a cash prize, but they also benefit from a fully funded short video (produced by Lavender Lane Media) that empowers their organization to increase the impact of their work.

There’s a gallery of all recipients on the A1 in the Community webpage.

And in case you hadn’t noticed, our community-minded friends at A1 are behind all of the videos you see associated with this feature. This spirit of generosity is what makes me proud to be part of the local business community right here in the Bay of Quinte area.
